Thank you everyone for a great 1st quarter of the school year.  It is amazing that I am already listing December dates on this bulletin.  Please keep the positive energy flowing.  Remember....these are the "good old days".  Enjoy them.

Jail the Teacher (10/30)

Thank you 8th Grade Team for organizing Jail the Teacher on Friday, October 30th.  Please make sure you discuss this with your students:

Friday, October 30th, the 8th grade team will be hosting a Jail The Teacher fundraiser to help raise money for our Adopt A Family project! Each period, students will have the opportunity to bring in CASH only, no coins, to "jail" their teacher for a specific amount of time. After collecting students' money, you will bring the money along with your class to the big gym. Miss Cook will be at the door collecting and counting money ($1 = 1 minute). Students will then be able to participate in different Halloween and/or Christmas activities such as a movie, coloring pages, word searches, and line dancing. Popcorn will also be sold at specific times for $1. Teachers will have to sit in the "jail" during their time with no phones, Chromebooks, etc. (We know this will all be terrible for us) When your time is up, you will take your class back to their normal period. We suggest incentivizing the kids to bring money by telling them they will have to take a quiz or something less desirable during the period if they do not bring enough money to jail their teacher the entire time.

Common Checkpoint Assessments

Grade Level Teams, please make sure we are getting out Common Checkpoint Assessments completed.  The dates are flexible.  We just need to make sure we are getting them done and utilizing the data to improve our instruction.  Here is a link to the Common Checkpoint Assessment Dates

Important Information

PBIS (Authenticity and Awareness)

During homeroom each day this week.  Student Ambassadors will go to homerooms that do not have a PBIS staff member.  

Homeroom teachers/ Ambassadors will discuss the student goal for the day and model the acknowledgement sheet.  Here is a link to the script

Each day will focus on different goal EMS Goal.

Monday-  Academic Goal (Who is someone that works really hard academically?)

Tuesday-  Behavior Goal (Who is someone that is respectful, responsible, and ready to learn?)

Wednesday-  Experience Goal (Who is someone that makes connections and provides opportunities for others?)

Thursday-  Social Emotional Goal (Who is uplifting and positive to everyone around them?)

*  Students will pass out their goal sheet with a note and a Jolly Rancher to a peer that is working towards the goal.

OTES Observations

For those of you that are being Formally Observed this year, please make sure you get an observation scheduled sometime during the first semester.  You will need to answer pre-observation questions prior to our pre-conference.  

If you are not on a full evaluation schedule for this year, just let me or Dave know when you like one of us to stop in to observe a lesson.  No need for any paperwork.  Same day notice might be possible depending on the drama of the day.

Ranger Report

Just a reminder to make sure you are reading the Ranger Report everyday when you get to school.  It is important for everyone to know the coverages for the day.

Halloween

The following information will be sent to students and parents on Monday:

Student Halloween Costume Expectations 

In an effort to enjoy and celebrate Halloween at EMS appropriately, respectfully, and in  accordance with school rules, we ask that students use the following guidelines when selecting  a costume:  

1. Staff members must be able to identify students. Students are not allowed to wear  masks/coverings that cover the entire face. 

2. Costumes that are provocative, revealing, sexual in nature, or employ questionable  props are not permitted.  

3. Costumes that depict violence, alcohol, or drugs are not permitted. Fake weapons are  not allowed. 

4. Costumes that could be offensive or perpetuate a stereotype of someone’s culture,  gender, heritage, or religion are not permitted.  

5. Costumes should not hinder your ability to participate in your classes, including P.E.  Costumes may not disrupt or impede traffic, or present issues of safety in the hallway.  

Students wearing questionable costumes will be asked to change into normal school attire and  issued school consequences. If you have any questions regarding the appropriateness of your  costume idea, we encourage you to speak with Mr. Eberly

Safety Week

I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and professionalism during Safety Week.  We will be "debriefing" during PLCs this week and talking about common questions and solutions.

Teacher Hours

Just a reminder.....per contract, teacher work hours are 7:30-2:30.

Please make sure you are on time and do not leave early.

Being late from time to time happens.  It is only a problem when it becomes a habit.

Email Signature updates

The district is in the process of rolling out consistent ADA compliant email signatures. This will occur building by building over the next few weeks. The signatures will be branded with the logo and information of your “home” school and will include your name, title, school main number and voicemail extension, email, district website, and the address for the school. 

Once your building migrates, you may need to use Ctrl + F5 to refresh your gmail settings for your new signature to appear.  Additionally, if you have a secondary building or title that you'd like to add, you can type it in a custom field by visiting this website. https://user.bulksignature.com/ 

Once we begin the process in October, your current signatures will be overwritten with the new automated, ADA compliant email signatures.
